Tent Permit

If you are planning to have a tent 900 square feet or larger, Isle of Wight County requires you to have a A.) tent permit. Very few tent companies will handle the permitting process for you. If your tent company does not, then you will be responsible for obtaining the permit. You are also required to B.) call in a Miss Utility Ticket.

A.) Tent Permit Process

1. Set up an account on Open Gov Permitting. Then select Central Permitting Applications, Temporary Tent Application.  
2. Select button APPLY ONLINE.
3. You will need to upload the following documents as part of your application:
   1. Tent floor plan (Tent Company)
   2. Certificate of Flame Resistance (Tent Company)
   3. Site Plan (Use map below to show where tent will be located on grounds)
4. Step 1, input all of your contact information.
5. Step 2, type in the property address of 301 Jericho Road, Smithfield VA and the information will automatically populate.  
6. Step 3, 
   1. for Applicant is? select AUTHORIZED AGENT.
   2. Event Start Date-enter date of your event, Event End Date-enter date of your event. 
   3. Enter Total Number of Tents  
   4. Will this be located at Windsor Castle Park?  Select Yes.  
   5. Under Detailed Description of Project simply write "tent for event".  
7. Step 4 Tent Details, add dimensions, guest occupancy and total square feet.
8. Step 5, enter your name as signature.  
9. Step 6, upload the 3 documents mentioned above -Tent Floor Plan, Certificate of Flame Resistance and Site Plan.  
10. Once the application has been approved (usually 2 weeks), the county will send you a permit. Please forward the permit to Email WC Information.
